ANGLING ETIQUETTE CARDS
When it comes to protecting rivers, sometimes the most powerful tools are the simplest ones.
This spring, in partnership with Trout Unlimited - Hemingway Chapter, Project Big Wood, and The Nature Conservancy, we created bilingual river etiquette cards designed to encourage responsible recreation on the Big Wood River. These small but mighty cards, written in both English and Spanish, are now available at fly shops and outdoor retailers throughout Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue.
Whether you’re new to fly fishing or have been casting lines for decades, these cards offer friendly reminders on how to respect the river, the fish, and each other. From giving fellow anglers space, to knowing when a parking lot is full, to keeping fish wet and barbless hooks ready, every tip helps foster a more thoughtful and sustainable fishing culture.
We believe that great days on the river start with clear communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to conservation. By making this information accessible to a wider audience — including our Spanish-speaking community — we’re ensuring that everyone has the tools to enjoy the river responsibly.
This project wasn’t just about etiquette. It was about connection: connecting people to place, anglers to one another, and all of us to the health of our waters. We’re grateful to our collaborators and to the fly shops and retailers who have stepped up to share these cards with their customers.
Because when we all know the guidelines, we all get to enjoy the river just a little more.
